Le Cher Du Monde – Port Douglas – Queensland – Australia
For the final leg of my great Australian adventure I had flown from Uluru airport to the tropical North East town of Cairns in Queensland. From there I was taken by taxi to the cosmopolitan and sophisticated resort town of Port Douglas, about an hours ride down the coast. Port Douglas was once a tiny fishing village and still retains much of the look and feel of a picturesque township with an old – fashioned charm.
When we arrived late in the evening the shady, tree lined streets were filled with squawking parrots inviting visitors into the extensive choice of restaurants, art galleries, and boutique shops! I was pleasantly surprised to find that the town has no traffic lights, no parking meters and no plans or intention to install them either!

We were in the tropical north having just flown from the dry central heart of Australia and the difference in humidity was very noticeable. I was visiting in February, `the green season` so it was warm, sunny during the day followed by violent storms in the evening! I experienced a couple of electrical storms with very heavy rain, sheet and fork lightning and loud claps of thunder followed by a warm, cool but pleasant night.

I was staying at Le Cher Du Monde located on Macrossan Street, in the very heart of Port Douglas. Le Cher Du Monde is managed and owned by the most hospitable, friendly and helpful manager of any hotel on our whole Australian trip.

Having arrived late in the evening we were pleased but surprised to find Manager Mr Robert Hamood had waited for us to arrive, ensuring the room was to our satisfaction and that we had everything we needed to ensure a comfortable stay.

Over the next couple of days, he booked restaurants and taxis for us, loaned out umbrellas and advised us about the best places to eat breakfast. Robert could not have done any more for us – a great guy and a fine example to hotel managers everywhere. Brilliant!

Our self-contained condo style apartment was of a very high standard. It had cool tropical tiled floors and was furnished in a light and airy tropical decor with a very welcome king size bed.
The hotel was delightful with a small, safe swimming pool surrounded by palms and green foliage creating a comfortable cool and tropical retreat in which to relax.
Le Cher Du Monde is 5 minutes from the sands of Four Mile Beach and 6 minutes from Port Douglas Marina Mirage and the Sunday Markets. Le Cher Du Monde is right in the middle of downtown Port Douglas so you won’t require a car.

The hotel was centrally placed so we were a couple of minutes from any number of chic outdoor cafes, restaurants, old Queenslander pubs, the Marina Mirage, world famous Port Douglas Four Mile Beach and many other historical sites.
Our apartment had everything we needed to make our stay in Port Douglas a comfortable and safe few days; Air-conditioned plus ceiling fans, Ensuite with big corner spa, Super comfy king size bed, Swing LCD TV with cable TV & DVD, a self – contained kitchen, refrigerator, stove top, Patio/Balcony setting and most importantly of all Free WiFi!
